In the Summer edition of The Bottom Line, I wrote about how proud we are, as a firm, for being named one of the top 10 “Best Places to Work in LA” by the Los Angeles Business Journal. At the time that I wrote my last article, we were gearing up for the results of the 2009 “Best Places to Work in LA” survey. We knew that we had made the 2009 list, but did not know what our ranking would be.
In 2008, RBZ was #10 on this list. This year, we are proud to report that we improved our ranking by advancing 3 spots to #7. And, as it turns out, RBZ is also the highest-ranked accounting firm on the list. Wow!
To give you an idea of how the results are broken down, there are 3 different categories that companies fall under. Small companies (15-24 employees), medium companies (25-249 employees) and large companies (250 or more employees). RBZ falls within the medium size company category—which also happens to be the largest category with fifty finalists out of hundreds of entries.
The event itself was held in the Crystal Ballroom at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The ballroom was at full capacity with more than 500 people in attendance. The excitement was palpable and it only increased as lunch was served and the results started to be announced. RBZ had a table of 10 and we filled it with RBZers from every level, staff up to managing partner.
When we reached the top ten results without having been called to the podium yet, we all started looking at each other with anticipation. We had taken bets on what number we would be to try and ease the tension a little. Typically, when your name was announced, the CEO or managing partner would go up to accept the award. We decided that, since our staff members were the ones that completed the survey for this award, they should be the one’s to accept it.
So, when our name was called at #7, we high-fived while Fred Warga, Jeff Laufman, Michelle Escovar and Michael Bossi made their way up front to accept the award. The photographer was caught off-guard and had a hard time fitting them all into the photo at the podium. Their smiles on the way back to the table were priceless.
Since it was our wonderful staff that provided the stellar feedback moving RBZ up to #7, all I can say is, “Thank You,” and thank you from all of the RBZ partners. We are so grateful to you and happy that the investment that we have made to provide a workplace that everyone enjoys and finds personally and professionally gratifying is paying off. We will continue to strive to keep RBZ one of the “Best Places to Work in LA”.
